The Learning Specialist reports to the Head of Middle School and the Head of Upper School and works
closely with faculty and the administrative team in both divisions. The Learning Specialist supports
middle and upper school students with learning strategies, organization, and study skills, provides
individual learning plans, and serves as a resource for faculty.

● Assist with the writing of individual learning plans (ILPs) that will target pupils’ specific
curricular/learning needs;
● Read and summarize all Psych-Ed evaluations for Middle and Upper School and for Admissions
as necessary;
● Attend Parent-Teacher Conferences to discuss pupil progress with parents, if required;
● Counsel families on learning support and assessment accommodations;
● Teach two or more sections of Middle and Upper School Awareness class;
● Establish regular and effective communication with students and parents;
● Engage in regular professional development and identify growth-based goals;
● Support teaching staff by offering resources, assistance, advice, and training to enable faculty to
better meet the needs of all learners;
● Organize and oversee standardized testing such as the SAT and ACT;
● Develop and maintain communication and documentation protocols related to learning support;
● Assume an active role in Student Support meetings;
● Perform other duties as determined by the Heads of Middle and Upper School.Requirements: Qualifications
● Bachelor’s degree in special education or related field. Master’s degree preferred;
● Experience as a learning specialist or in a related role. Independent school experience preferred;
● Familiarity with legal responsibilities of independent schools related to IEP and 504 plans;
● Ability to empathize;
● Ability to maintain confidentiality;
● A deep love and patience for adolescents and teens;

We are looking for someone who has a passion for physics, STEM work, and the environment. More specifically, RCDS is seeking an innovative teacher who sees science not only as a study and a discipline, but also as applicable to real world situations. RCDS students integrate disciplines into a “Design Doing” project, where learning becomes visible and knowledge is used to devise solutions. While our current need is for Physics and Environmental Science, we are looking for a teacher who is interested in and able to teach a variety of sciences.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Create an interactive learning environment that includes creative lessons and assessments;
- Provide opportunities for students to enter into academic dialogue through lively classroom discussion;
- Assess students to evaluate their abilities through the lens of a growth mindset and global competencies;
- “Hands-on” teaching;
- Establish regular and effective communication with students and parents;
- Engage in regular professional development and identify growth-based goals;
- Participate in required non-classroom activities including parent/teacher conferences, faculty meetings, special activities, and performance events;
- Foster a confident and collegial atmosphere within the Upper School and actively encourage interdisciplinary opportunities with other colleagues.
- Engage in selected extracurricular activities, which may include activities such as advising, coaching, sponsoring a club, chaperoning dances or trips, etc.
Requirements: - B.A./B.S. in Science or a related field required; M.A./M.S. in Science or a related field preferred
- Ability to teach a variety of Upper School science classes, including a senior science elective
- Passion for subject matter and for working with bright, motivated teenagers in a rigorous, college-preparatory environment
- Successful high school or college teaching experience in science classes
- Independent School experience preferred

social-emotional, and mental health needs.
● Serve as a member of appropriate Student Support Teams
● Support Bullying Prevention & Response program implementation.
● Create, implement and support SEL efforts.
● Crisis response and support as needed.
● Administrative oversight in creating, implementing, and maintaining needed social-emotional
support plans and documentation for students.
● Exceptional communication skills, written and verbal.
