Night of Firsts

Ravens Play First Football Game

August 31, 2007, Owasso, OK - With a hint of fall in the air, August 31 rang in a night of firsts for the Varsity Riverfield Ravens – first game ever played complete with good first kick-off -- first first downs – first decent defensive plays – a first touch down! The team had some good offensive gains for a first game and defensively there were signs of toughness and heart that will only increase as the season progresses.

The uniforms were dirty and the helmets had hit marks, sure signs of a hard fought effort by a trail blazing group of young men. The final score belied the fact that there were many positives to our first game. We are proud of the team and its coaches, the spunky cheerleaders and the impressively talented drum team, as well as the support showed by the Riverfield turnout. These events contribute strongly to a sense of school community and pride.

We were excited to see our kids running around the game with their school buddies and the joy they exhibited to be part of the scene. We delighted in the lively chatter and shouts of encouragement from a supporting community. We know there is a lot to improve upon – but given the short amount of time given to practice and play, and the enormous complexities of the game, we also know that with time, measuring and treasuring our small but significant victories will ultimately contribute to the scoreboard victories of the future.
