Valentine Tradition at RCDS – Homemade!
As you’re out shopping, please don’t be tempted to buy the store’s pre-made Valentine cards for your child! At Riverfield we have a tradition of MAKING our own Valentines, so purchase red, white, and pink paper, lace hearts, and other things children can use to make their own. Magazine pictures, ribbons, fabric scraps, etc. make great supplies to get the creativity flowing. Teachers in each age group will have specific information to you soon.
Sports
Baseball signups - Riverfield boys and girls 4 years old through 5th grade are playing baseball through Jenks baseball and softball programs. Information is available at www.jenksbaseball.com and www.jenkssoftball.com . Sign-up online and email Tiffany Crowl at tcrowl@riverfield.org if you are playing.
Speech and Debate
Riverfield’s Speech and Debate students faced their toughest competition of the year at the Seminole Pow Pow Tournament. This tournament had no Novice Division, so our students competed in the Championship Division, meaning all entries had previously qualified for Regional competition. We were also the smallest school represented, competing against 6A, 5A and 4A schools. Riverfield students performed admirably, with several students competing in final rounds of competition. At the end of the day, Lauren Hayes placed Second in Prose Reading in the Champs Division! The Raven squad competes this Saturday at the T Forum Tournament at Booker T. Washington in Tulsa.
Academic Bowl
The Riverfield 5 th /6 th grade Academic Bowl teams played well at the tournament held at Riverfield this weekend. Riverfield A took second place and will be competing at the State competition on March 28 th . The 6 th /7 th Academic Bowl team traveled to Hilldale near Muskogee for their District Tournament. Riverfield defeated the host Hilldale team 250 to 200 and then defeated the Catoosa team 310 to 170, finishing with a perfect 2 - 0 record. Thanks to Roseanne Hartmann for driving her van and transporting the team to and from the contest. Team members are as follows: Chandler Bair, 7 th grade; Everett LeViness, 7 th grade; Nicholas Hartmann, 6 th grade, Drew Rhynes, 6th grade; and Kyler Swearingen, 6 th grade. The 6 th /7 th grade team will play next in the Regional Tournament at Oologah on Saturday, February 14 th , beginning at 9a.m.
Blanket Drive
The Riverfield Athletic department, in conjunction with Volunteers of America, will be holding a blanket drive on January 30 th during the basketball games versus Eagle Point. Anyone bringing a blanket will receive free admission to the game. This is a wonderful opportunity to help our community and those in need during the winter months.

If you haven’t gotten your personalized order in yet, it is not too late. The deadline has been extended to Tuesday, January 27 th at noon. Orders without personalization will still be accepted after that. Order forms are available at the front desk or you can order online at http://jostensyearbooks.com?REF=A01086812. Snow Day Policy
There are three types of snow events:
1. Late Start: When a late start is declared, classes will begin at 10:00am and proceed on the late start schedule. There will be a faculty team on campus for early arrivals.
2. No Academic Schedule: During a “no academic schedule” day, no classes will be held on campus, but the school will be open for students who wish to attend. There will be a faculty team available for students that attend. Riverfield encourages families to spend these days at home together when at all possible.
3. Campus Closed: The school will be closed if the campus cannot be safely prepared for the arrival of students and employees. For school closings the following calling tree will be implemented: Head of School will call Division Heads, Division Heads will call teachers, and teachers will call their family groups.
After one “No Academic Schedule” or “Campus Closed” day per winter, Cyber Days will be in effect for K – 12 th grades. During these days, each K – 12 th grade teacher will be responsible for sending assignments via email by 10:00am and be available to respond to questions via email until 3:05pm. Students on campus will receive their assignments on campus and be given the opportunity to complete this work throughout the course of the day.
For notification of Riverfield snow day decisions, the Parent Alert System will notify families and staff. Updates will also be available on RenWeb, 740 KRMG on the radio, and News Channel 8 on the television. Media communication may not explain what sort of “snow event” we are having, so please check Parent Alert notifications for specific information.
