Upper School
Overview

The Upper School, serving 9th - 12th grades, is the only nonsectarian independent high school in the Tulsa area and provides a rigorous, yet flexible academic program focused on preparing graduates for college. Riverfield is accredited by the Independent Schools Association of the Southwest and will work closely with ISAS as the Upper School advances.

Academic Goal
The primary academic goal of the Upper School is to encourage sound scholarship, independent learning and critical thinking. Riverfield challenges and supports all students so they will graduate ready to meet the demands of college, a competitive workforce and a complex life.

Athletics and Arts
Monday through Thursday, 3:15-4:30pm, athletics and arts are offered. Students are strongly encouraged to participate in these activities.
Fall: Arts, cross country and soccer
Winter: Basketball, drama and roller hockey
Spring: Baseball, golf, softball, tennis and computer video editing

Campouts
Each fall and spring, the Upper School students and faculty go on a three day campout that combines academic studies, teamwork, leadership training and some time to relax and have fun. Campout activities include drumming and instrument playing, fishing, hiking, animal observations, water coloring, sports games, bead making, science exploration in the water, ROPES course teamwork activities and dramatic presentations.

Class Size
In small classes, students are encouraged and expected to prepare thoroughly for every assignment and to interact with both the teacher and their peers. The school fosters in each of its students the development of self-confidence and a sense of purpose in academic and personal goals.

Clubs and Activities
Time is allotted two mornings each week for clubs and activities including Academic Bowl, Audio Visual, Business, Chess, Drumming and Yearbook. Student interests may lead to the development of other clubs.

College Admissions
Riverfield creates an environment where students grow on many different levels. One of our fundamental responsibilities is to assist students in the selection of colleges that best match their abilities, interests and overall personal and school achievements. A college counselor works with students in their sophomore and junior years to determine where to apply to college and to provide assistance with applications. During this time, Riverfield will establish relationships with colleges to which students are interested in applying.

Facility
The Upper School and gymnasium is a 16,000sq ft facility that is wireless and houses a Science Lab, classrooms, gymnasium, locker rooms, school store, concessions and a weight room.

Faculty
The experienced faculty with an average of 20 years of teaching, encourages students to achieve their potential in all aspects of development: intellectual, social, emotional, physical and moral. They promote the development of mutual goals and responsibilities. A trusting, respectful, positive school environment leads to genuine dialogue between faculty and students.

Tablet laptop PC Program
Riverfield is the only school in Oklahoma to offer a Tablet laptop PC program. Upper School students purchase a Tablet laptop PC that is integrated into all aspects of their Upper School experience. The Tablet functions as a traditional laptop and as a tablet to use as a writing surface. Tablets are equipped with voice and handwriting recognition software that allows students many options for notetaking, writing compositions and organizing documents.
