Activities and Organizations - Riverfield Country Day School

Riverfield encourages students of all ages to participate in activities and organizations that interest them. Because of the flexibility we provide for our students, they are able to take part in many of these events and activities. The balance between school work, athletics, and other activities naturally teaches students how to manage their time wisely while encouraging them to pursue their interests. While some events cater toward specific age/grade groups, there are a number of all-school activities and events made for the whole family. They are:

Visiting Day - This November event is a way for our students to share their school with parents, grandparents, and family friends. This special day provides visitors the opportunity to become familiar with Riverfield and to see students in a classroom setting. Student exhibitions and performances are often part of this occasion.

Homecoming - By hosting our annual basketball Homecoming, we encourage students and their families, alum, and the faculty to join together in Raven pride. This event is highlighted by a spirit week, pep rally, and Varsity basketball games.

CaféNight/Llamapalooza - These performances showcase the hard work and talent of the students in the Riverfield Rocks band program. Café Night takes place at the end of the first semester while Llamapalooza is held each spring. These family-friendly events bring the Riverfield community together for incredible concert experiences on campus.

RFA Auction – The year’s biggest fundraiser, this adults-only event is held annually and organized by the Riverfield Family Association. The evening includes silent, live, and online auctions in addition to a delicious dinner, entertainment, and other games. Parents are encouraged to attend as well as help find sponsors, auction items, and volunteer during the event.

Legacy - An event unique to Riverfield, this fun fair with games, prizes, and food is coordinated and executed by the 8th grade class each May. Funds raised are a “legacy” to help offset the cost of the following year’s Spring Museum Trip.

In addition to school-wide events, each Division has a number of extracurricular opportunities available. During enrollment periods, information and enrollment forms are sent via email or are available in hard copy at the front desk.

Pre-School

Garden Club – With the help of our resident gardener and a green thumb, students in Pre-School through Middle School plant, weed, beautify, and even prepare recipes using ingredients from our gardens. Garden Club students can participate several days a week as part of extended care hours (after 3:30pm). No enrollment is necessary and there is no cost.

Lower School

Blue Raven Juniors & Blue Raven Singers – This school chorus is directed by Riverfield's Lower School music teacher. Blue Raven Juniors, open to 1st -3rd grade students and Blue Raven Singers is open to 4th-5th grade students. Weekly practices prepare students for performances on- and off-campus. Enrollment is by semester and there is no fee.

Orff – These instrumental ensembles, comprised of 4th -5th grade students, are based on the work of Carl Orff, the turn-of-the-century Austrian composer who believed in the supreme musical experience of working in an ensemble at the earliest levels. Led by Music teacher Libby Sublett, Riverfield’s “Orffans” participate in the annual Orff Festival each spring as well as several performances during the school year.

Instrumental Music Lessons - Private and group music lessons are offered throughout the week for students in 1st -12th grades in piano, guitar, bass guitar, percussion, and songwriting/composition. Not every instrument is offered every day, and spaces are limited. Additional fees apply.

Raven Robotics - Led by faculty members, this 12-week program is offered for 4th-8th students. The Raven Robotics participants work on Lego Spike Programming and previous participants have participated in Tulsa Regional STEM Alliance SeaPerch competitions. Enrollment and a fee are both necessary for this program.

Middle School

Academic Bowl – With teams divided into grade levels, Academic Bowl members in grades 4-9 practice weekly from October to April. Coached by faculty members, participants play in tournaments within the Lake Country Conference and through the Oklahoma Junior Academic Bowl Association (OJABA). RCDS teams have a long and storied history of success in Academic Bowl Competitions.

Blue Raven Legends – This school chorus is directed by Riverfield's Lower School music teacher. Open to 6th - 8th grade students, the Singers practice weekly for performances on- and off-campus. Enrollment is by semester and there is no fee.

Social Committee – This group of volunteers works alongside Student Council officers to organize and host a variety of social events and activities throughout the year. Some events are for Middle School, while others are school-wide.

Student Council – Officers and grade representatives are elected each spring to serve for the following school year. Student Council, with the help of the Social Committee, hosts fundraisers and events throughout the year.

Upper School

Academic Bowl – Members of the Varsity Academic Bowl team compete in OSSAA-sponsored competition. These members practice weekly from September to April. Participants play in tournaments across Oklahoma and have had much success in recent years. Participation in tournaments can qualify team members for regional, state, and national competitions.

Diversity Committee – Students in Diversity Committee participate in several on and off-campus efforts including creation of a float for Tulsa’s Martin Luther King Jr. Parade and Hunger Awareness Week.

Speech & Debate/National Forensic League (NFL) – Team members participate in NFL and OSSAA-sponsored competitions in speech and debate categories from prose interpretation to Lincoln-Douglas debate. Participation in tournaments can qualify team members for regional, state, and national competitions.

National Honor Society (NHS) – Each spring, qualifying 10th-12th grade students are inducted in this prestigious group. Scholarship, leadership, service, and character are considered during the application process. Once inducted, NHS members participate in monthly community service days as well as organizing service days for all 6th – 12th grade students once a semester.

Prom Committee – This group of volunteers works alongside the Student Council Social Chair to organize Prom, which is held offsite each spring and open to 9th – 12th grade students and their guests.

Student Council – Officers and grade representatives are elected each spring to serve for the following school year. Riverfield is part of the Oklahoma Association of Student Councils (OASC) and takes part in State and District conferences throughout the year. This group hosts fundraisers and events throughout the year.

Other activities include game nights, campouts, service days, dances, student vs. faculty competitions, ultimate frisbee, movie nights, and more.
