Description
Riverfield Country Day School (RCDS) in Tulsa, OK, seeks a full-time, skilled, and dynamic science teacher to begin in August of 2026. More specifically, we are seeking an innovative teacher who sees science not only as a study and a discipline, but also as applicable to real-world situations. RCDS students integrate disciplines into “Design Doing” projects, where learning becomes visible, and knowledge is used to devise solutions. We are interested in candidates who can collaborate with other academic domains to create meaningful, in-depth learning that teaches the rigor of scientific inquiry in context with and alongside other disciplines. An interest in teaching Anatomy and Physiology is a plus.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Create an interactive learning environment that includes creative lessons and assessments;
- Provide opportunities for students to enter into academic dialogue through lively classroom discussion;
- Assess students to evaluate their abilities through the lens of a growth mindset and global competencies;
- “Hands-on” innovative teaching;
- Establish regular and effective communication with students and parents;
- Engage in regular professional development and identify growth-based goals;
- Participate in required non-classroom activities, including parent/teacher conferences, faculty meetings, special activities, and performance events;
- Foster a confident and collegial atmosphere within the Upper School and actively encourage interdisciplinary opportunities with other colleagues.
- Engage in selected extracurricular activities, which may include activities such as advising, coaching, sponsoring a club, chaperoning dances or trips, etc.
Requirements
- B.A./B.S. in Science or a related field required; M.A./M.S. in Science or a related field preferred
- Ability to teach a variety of Upper School science classes, including a senior science elective
- Passion for subject matter and for working with bright, motivated teenagers in a rigorous, college-preparatory environment
- Successful high school or college teaching experience in science classes
- Independent School experience preferred.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to talk and hear, traverse the classroom and school building, and outdoor areas. There are prolonged periods of standing, sitting, and computer use. Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
