Lower School Spanish Teacher

Riverfield Country Day School (RCDS) in Tulsa, OK, seeks a skilled and dynamic Spanish teacher who can teach Spanish at any Lower School grade level, Kindergarten- 5th Grade. More specifically, RCDS is seeking an innovative Spanish teacher who enjoys fluency in the Spanish language as well as an affinity for Hispanic culture from around the world.  Spanish at RCDS can be cross-disciplinary because RCDS students integrate disciplines into a constructivist “Design Thinking” mindset, where learning becomes active, visible, and joyful.  We maintain uniquely small class sizes with a 1:12-1:15 ratio, depending on the age of the students.  The ideal candidate will bring a collaborative mindset that embraces new opportunities. 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Embrace the TPRS method of language development;
  • Draw from the Responsive Classroom Specials Classes approach for behavior management and community building;
  • Create an interactive learning environment that includes creative lessons and assessments;
  • Approach learning with a growth mindset, which involves significant feedback from teachers;
  • Provide opportunities for students to enter into academic dialogue through lively classroom discussion; 
  • Collaborate to design interdisciplinary experiences and coursework;
  • “Hands-on,” experiential and/or project-based teaching;
  • Establish regular and effective communication with students and parents; including but not limited to conference forms and grade card comments;
  • Engage in regular professional development and identify growth-based goals;
  • Participate in required non-classroom activities including parent/teacher conferences, faculty meetings, special activities, and performance events;
  • Foster a confident and collegial atmosphere within the Riverfield community and actively encourage interdisciplinary opportunities with other colleagues;

 

Requirements

  • B.A./B.S. in a related field is required;
  • Ability to teach Lower School Spanish at any grade level;
  • Passion for the subject matter and for working with bright, motivated K-5 students in a rigorous, innovative learning environment;
  • Agility and flexibility to collaborate on cross-disciplinary projects and assignments;
  • Successful high school or college teaching experience in a classroom setting;
  • Independent School experience preferred. 

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to talk and hear, traverse the classroom and school building, as well as outdoor areas.  There may be prolonged periods of standing, sitting, and working on a computer.  Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
