- Lower School 4th/5th Grade TeacherJob Type: Full TimeLocation: Tulsa, Oklahoma
Description
Riverfield Country Day School (RCDS) in Tulsa, OK, seeks a dynamic, collaborative, creative, and talented teacher for a Lower School 4th and 5th-Grade multi-age position. This teacher must be excited to integrate subjects, ELA, STEM, and Humanities, in long-term project-based learning. In our progressive, project-based environment, you are not just a teacher—you are a facilitator of inquiry, a designer of experiences, and a mentor to young learners. The ideal candidate thrives in a collaborative, iterative-based PBL environment, passionate about integrating technology, fostering student autonomy, and connecting curriculum to real-world issues.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design & Facilitate PBL long-term investigations: Develop interdisciplinary, learning-aligned PBL projects that launch with a "driving question" and engage students in sustained inquiry.
- Facilitate Student Voice and Choice: Empower students to make decisions about their learning paths, project plans, and final products.
- Implement Innovative Pedagogy: Utilize progressive techniques including maker-centered learning, design thinking, and collaborative group work to solve authentic problems.
- Act as a Facilitator, not often a lecturer: Shift from traditional lecturing to a guide-on-the-side approach, fostering student independence and self-directed learning.
- Authentic Assessment: Move beyond tests to use formative assessment, rubrics, and portfolio-based evaluation to measure growth in knowledge and success skills (collaboration, critical thinking).
- Create a Democratic Classroom: Build a collaborative, inclusive community where student voice is valued, and learners work together to create public products.
- Integrate Technology Purposefully: Leverage digital tools for research, creation, and presentation (e.g., AI tools, multimedia, CAD, or coding) as a tool for innovation.
- Collaborate and Iterate: Actively participate in a team-teaching environment, continually refining curriculum based on student interest and feedback.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, Early Childhood, or related field.
- Proven experience in, or strong knowledge of, Project-Based Learning, Montessori, Reggio Emilia, or other progressive pedagogical approaches.
- Demonstrated ability to teach 21st-century skills (critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity).
- Passion for nurturing student independence, grit, and emotional intelligence.
Ideal Traits:
- Passionate & Creative: A "lifelong learner" who brings their own curiosities into the classroom.
- Flexible & Adaptable: Comfortable navigating the evolving nature of project-based work.
- Fun-Loving & Empathetic: Creates a safe, joyful space for students to take risks and learn through an iterative process.
Why Work With Us?
- Freedom to innovate and collaborate to design an exciting and engaging curriculum.
- Small class sizes designed for deep interaction.
- Strong focus on professional growth and collaborative planning time.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to talk and hear, traverse the classroom and school building, and outdoor areas. There may be prolonged periods of standing, sitting, and computer use. Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
